Long-Lead Board
The binding constraint in DC delivery is availability, not just price. This board joins the equipment PPI YoY we already publish with what each vendor's own filings and earnings documents say about its order book — a directional proxy for lead-time pressure, not a lead-time quote in weeks. Every figure links to the company document that states it.

Months of backlog Census M3: unfilled orders ÷ monthly shipments, both seasonally adjusted
How many months current shipments would take to clear the order book — an industry-wide, primary-source lead-time proxy that complements the vendors' own figures below. Electrical equipment maps to switchgear and transformers; turbines, generators & power transmission maps to generator sets. Data: FRED A35CUO/A35CVS and ATGPUO/ATGPVS (Census M3, monthly, about one month behind).

| Cummins CMI · NYSE Power Systems | Cummins discloses no backlog, order-backlog, orders, or book-to-bill metric in either its Q1 2026 10-Q (SEC EDGAR, filed 2026-05-05, accession 0000026172-26-000016, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/26172/000002617226000016/cmi-20260331.htm) or its matching Q1 2026 earnings release (8-K Ex-99, filed 2026-05-05, accession 0000026172-26-000013, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/26172/000002617226000013/cmi2026q18-kex99.htm) — both checked live 2026-07-26, zero hits for "backlog" or "book-to-bill" in either document. The only comparable aggregate is a Topic 606 remaining-transaction-price note in the 10-Q ("NOTE 2. REVENUE FROM CONTRACTS WITH CUSTOMERS"), which states $6.9 billion at March 31, 2026 for long-term arrangements the note itself describes as "primarily long-term maintenance agreements, construction contracts, product sales with associated performance obligations extending beyond a year..." — a maintenance-dominated aggregate, not an industrial equipment order-backlog metric comparable to peers on this board. Cummins is excluded on this basis. |

| One search pass across Flowserve, Xylem, and Grundfos (2026-07-26) found no primary-source pump order-backlog metric with data-center relevance. Flowserve's Q1 2026 10-Q (SEC EDGAR, period ended 2026-03-31, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/30625/000003062526000012/fls-20260331.htm) reports one company-wide backlog of $2.9 billion, broken out only by aftermarket share and four generic end-market categories (energy, chemical, power generation, general industries) — "data center" appears zero times in the filing. Xylem and Grundfos publish narrative data-center-cooling product marketing but no order-backlog figure segmented (or even unsegmented, in Grundfos's case as a private foundation-owned company with no 10-K/10-Q) at a level meeting this board's primary-source bar. No pump maker is added to the long-lead board. | |
Reading the bases
“Backlog” is not one number. RPO is ASC-606 remaining performance obligations from the financial statements. Order backlog is the company's own orders-based order book. MD&A backlog is a believed-to-be-firm management figure. Caterpillar's Q1 2026 filings carry a $62.7B MD&A backlog and a $37.1B RPO simultaneously — same company, same quarter, different accounting objects. That is why every figure here carries a basis badge, and why figures with different bases are never summed and never share an axis.
Figures are stated-only: each one is published exactly as the vendor stated it, with its verbatim sentence and a link to the primary source. Nothing is derived — no computed book-to-bill, no cross-vendor aggregate. Vendors that disclose nothing at primary-source standard are shown as explicit nulls with the reason; that a supplier publishes no order-book figure is itself worth knowing. Quarterly figures flag stale after 120 days, annual after 430. Curated 2026-07-26.
